Homemade Fried Dough
- Whole Milk 200 g
- Dried Yeast 7 g
- Sugar 1 tbs
- Salt 2 tsp
- Greek Yogurt 400 g
- Baking Soda 1 tsp
- Plain White Flour 800 g
- Vegetable Oil 180 g
Warm up the milk. It should not be hot, just a bit warm. In a large bowl combine the milk, yeast, sugar, and 150 grams of the flour. Mix well and leave to prove or until it raises and bubbles appear on the surface.
In another bowl combine the yogurt and baking soda. Add the yeast mixture once it proves. Start incorporating the rest of the flour and start kneading until you reach a soft dough. Brush with vegetable oil or melted butter and leave aside to prove in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
Once proved, you may put it in plastic wrap and conserve in the fridge for 2 days. To fry the dough, you take a small ball of dough and start pulling it with your hands or using a rolling pin to make it thinner, aiming for about an inch or 2-3 cm in thickness. Put the oil in a pot and once hot, start frying the thinned out dough pieces until golden brown on both sides.
Serve with Nutella, Honey or Jam or dust with powdered sugar!
